Anson Resources secures key permit for Utah lithium project
Anson Resources Limited (ASX: ASN) has received formal approval for its Small Scale Mining Operation (SMO) application at the Green River Lithium Project in Utah. The authorization covers a dedicated site for the proposed production of 10,000 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate, utilizing direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology. The approved plan incorporates a brine extraction field, a processing plant site, and a disposal field for spent brine.
This regulatory milestone concludes the permitting process for the full-scale production plant, clearing a significant hurdle for the company. Anson Resources maintains a primary strategic focus on developing its two core Utah assets, including Green River and its nearby Paradox project, into significant producing operations. The company expects the defined facility footprint to provide operational efficiencies and potential capital cost savings.
"The SMO is the last of the major government approvals required for the planned Green River 10,000tpa lithium carbonate plant and a significant step forward in the development of the project. The approvals are a result of the Company building relationship with numerous government departments over the past three years since the acquisition of private land at Green River. The end of the permitting process takes the Company into the next critical phase of project financing."
— Bruce Richardson, Executive Chairman and CEO
With the permitting pathway now settled, the company has transitioned its focus toward project financing and final technical evaluations. A Definitive Engineering Study (DFS) is already underway to refine the capital requirements for the plant, with completion expected in Q1 2027. This study will form the technical foundation for ongoing discussions with potential strategic partners and financial institutions, as the company seeks to advance the site toward construction. Management plans to integrate findings from its 3D geological and numerical groundwater models to further optimize the extraction and disposal well placement.
