Atlas Salt Inc. has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Canadian National Railway Company to evaluate multi-modal rail solutions for distributing de-icing salt from the Great Atlantic Salt Project in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The proposed arrangement aims to assess how integrating rail logistics can reduce the delivered cost of salt, expand the addressable market, and improve project economics compared to the Updated Feasibility Study. That study previously contemplated completing final customer distribution almost entirely by trucking from the delivery port.

Under the non-binding framework, Atlas Salt and CN intend to explore rail movement on lanes served by the carrier's network, equipment and railcar supply solutions, and transload arrangements. These arrangements would link the marine-centric logistics model—where product ships by vessel from the Port of Turf Point to eastern seaboard discharge ports—with CN's inland rail network and logistics partnerships.

The agreement does not commit either party to a definitive contract. The companies intend to work together in good faith to develop the scope, terms, and commercial framework of a potential multimodal rail logistics partnership.

The initiative runs alongside active site construction at the Great Atlantic Salt Project, which advanced following the commencement of early works in February 2026. Atlas Salt is also progressing project financing activities, with multiple prospective lenders and strategic partners conducting active due diligence. Elsewhere in the surrounding district, final ambient noise tomography results were announced for the Robinsons River Salt Project.
