Au Gold Corp has finalized a historical long section reconstruction along the Shaw-McFarlane Trend at its 11,663-hectare Havelock Gold-Antimony Project in Victoria, Australia.

The work compiles findings from approximately 17 documented historical shafts and underground workings spanning a 5-kilometre strike length of the 9-kilometre trend. Recorded hard rock gold production between 1864 and 1891 totalled 17,097 ounces at an average grade of 28.7 grams per tonne across a 2.34-kilometre central section of the trend.

The most extensive workings are located at Shaw’s Main, where approximately 11,400 ounces of gold were extracted down to a recorded depth of 152 metres. Other mines along the trend were worked to depths shallower than 107 metres. Historical mine manager reports collated during the research indicate that several parallel gold-bearing reefs remain untested. At McFarlane’s, a historical exploration crosscut on the 76-metre level encountered a 0.6-metre-thick body of laminated quartz described as highly mineralized, with no records of subsequent follow-up work.

Au Gold is preparing to conduct phase 1 diamond drill testing of high-priority targets beneath the historical workings using the compiled production data and vein thickness records. Regional gold exploration continues to advance across the Victorian Gold Fields, where Alkane Resources Limited recently reported a high-grade gold-antimony discovery at its Costerfield operation, intersecting 580.9 g/t gold and 24% antimony over 0.61 metres in hole AD270.

“The extensive reconstruction of these historical production records is a critical step in our understanding of the reef systems developed at Havelock. Past shallow high-grade gold production at multiple sites along the trend reinforces our belief in the potential for significant discoveries beneath the historical workings”

— Marc Blythe, Founder and CEO of Au Gold

The company cautions that the collated historical information predates the introduction of NI 43-101. No mineral resources currently exist on the project, and there is no certainty that further exploration will define mineral resources.
