Australian Pacific Coal Appoints Administrators
Australian Pacific Coal Limited has appointed Shaun Fraser and Jonathan Henry of McGrathNicol Restructuring as voluntary administrators following a resolution of the company directors.
The administrators have taken control of the corporate affairs to assess the financial position and evaluate options for the future. The appointment extends directly to Australian Pacific Coal Limited alongside several subsidiaries, including AQC Investments 1, AQC Investments 2, AQC Services, Area Coal, Felix St, and Mining Investments One.
While the parent company and these entities enter administration, the development leaves the ongoing sales process for the principal Dartbrook coal mine unaffected. That process continues to be managed by receivers and managers from FTI Consulting, with enquiries directed to them.
Trading in company shares remains suspended on the ASX while the administration proceeds, with updates to be provided to shareholders in due course. The first statutory meeting of creditors is expected to take place on 3 September 2026, within eight business days of the administration beginning.
The corporate restructuring unfolds against a backdrop of severe financial pressure. Australian Pacific Coal reported net liabilities of $236.0 million as at 31 December 2025, following the derecognition of liabilities tied to the Dartbrook Joint Operation after the earlier receivership.
