Burgundy Diamond Mines Limited (ASX: BDM) has confirmed that its wholly owned subsidiary, Arctic Canadian Diamond Company Limited, has entered receivership. This development follows the conclusion of a formal sales and investment solicitation process for the Ekati Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories. Despite extensive outreach to a range of potential investors and counterparties, the company failed to receive any letters of intent or proposals capable of providing the necessary funding to continue operations.

Faced with ongoing negative cash flow and an inability to secure either fresh capital or continued support from lenders, the subsidiary had no remaining funding pathway to maintain production. Consequently, the Government of the Northwest Territories applied to the Supreme Court of British Columbia for the appointment of a receiver. The Court granted the application on July 14, 2026, marking the end of the current operational phase for the site.

Reflecting on the impact of the closure, Burgundy leadership addressed the significance of the operation:

"This is a deeply disappointing outcome for Ekati's workforce, Burgundy's stakeholders and communities across the Northwest Territories. Ekati has made an extraordinary contribution to the Territory for more than 25 years as a major private-sector employer and through its longstanding relationships with Indigenous communities and local businesses. Despite an extensive process to identify new investment or a transaction, no viable proposal was received."

"I wish to acknowledge the professionalism, commitment and resilience of the Arctic Canadian leadership team and workforce throughout an exceptionally difficult period, and thank our senior secured lender, CEEFC, and the Government of the Northwest Territories for their support."

— Jeremy King, CEO

Following the court's decision, the board of Burgundy is now assessing the implications of the receivership, including its specific obligations as a guarantor under the Large Enterprise Tariff Loan facility. The company continues to evaluate all available strategic options.
