Canadian Energy Metals Achieves Smelter Grade Alumina Proof-of-Concept and Launches Prefeasibility Study

Canadian Energy Metals Corp. has achieved proof-of-concept for producing Smelter Grade Alumina from non-bauxite black shales at its Thor Project in northeast Saskatchewan and formally commenced a Prefeasibility Study.

The metallurgical testwork converted boehmite produced from high-purity and chemical-grade alumina precursors into samples matching the purity and specifications of industry-standard smelter grade alumina produced through the Bayer Process. Those preliminary analytical results demonstrate that the black shales discovered at the site can yield the principal feedstock used in aluminum metal production, though the company notes that metallurgical test results are not necessarily indicative of commercial-scale performance and have not yet received formal product certification.

The metallurgical milestone expands the product pathway for the Thor Project following the company's January 2026 proof-of-concept for high-purity and chemical-grade alumina, building directly on the Preliminary Economic Assessment filed earlier in the year. Canadian Energy Metals holds an unencumbered 100% interest in the regional asset.

The formal commencement of the Prefeasibility Study provides a defensible engineering and economic assessment to define mining, refining and smelting pathways. The study will upgrade resource confidence, establish preliminary capital and operating costs, and evaluate logistics, infrastructure and market options to determine whether the project can advance to a full Feasibility Study.
