Cooper Metals (ASX: CPM) has concluded its maiden reverse circulation drilling program at the Ardmore North and Attina prospects, located within the Mt Isa East project in northwest Queensland. The explorer completed 16 drill holes for a total of 1,984 metres, targeting copper-gold mineralisation across the two sites. Thirteen holes were completed at Ardmore North, while three were drilled at the Attina prospect to test early geological interpretations.

Preliminary geological logging of the drill chips has identified the presence of sulphide minerals, including chalcopyrite and pyrite, at both locations. At Ardmore North, the observed chalcopyrite is primarily associated with hematite-magnetite alteration zones or found as vein fill within quartz structures. At Attina, initial findings suggest the sulphides are linked to a specific stratigraphic contact. The company utilised portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) testing on-site to assist in field identification, which provided preliminary indications of copper.

Executive Director Tim Armstrong highlighted the progress made during this initial phase of work.

"Completing our maiden drilling programs at both Ardmore North and Attina is a significant milestone for the Company. Logging is still underway, the geological team have done a great job managing the program and preliminary observations are very encouraging, to have already identified sulphides, including chalcopyrite, in RC chips from both prospects. While assays are required to confirm our visual interpretation, this maiden program has increased confidence in the prospects and we look forward to reporting assay results to the market as they are received."

The company is now transitioning into the analysis phase, with samples currently being prepared for laboratory submission. As these are visual observations, laboratory assays are required to determine the actual grade, width, and continuity of any mineralisation. Cooper Metals remains focused on awaiting these laboratory assay results for the completed drill holes, which will serve as the next primary catalyst for the project.
