The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has formally filed an opposition motion in federal court, supporting the current operating status of the Colosseum project in California. This legal filing serves as a direct response to proceedings initiated by the National Parks Conservation Association, which had challenged the federal authorization of mining activities at the site. The DOJ contends that the existing Plan of Operations remains fully effective and that previous correspondence from the National Park Service in April 2025 served only to confirm established legal rights rather than issuing a new, actionable approval.

Dateline Resources Limited (ASX: DTR) views the DOJ’s position as a validation of its long-standing stance that all site activities have remained within the scope of valid federal permits. The company maintains that its operations are protected under the California Desert Protection Act, which preserves rights that existed prior to the creation of the Mojave National Preserve.

"The Department of Justice's submissions closely reflect the position Dateline has maintained throughout these proceedings. The Federal Government's filing confirms its view that the existing Plan of Operations remains effective and that the National Park Service's 2025 correspondence was not a new authorisation of mining activities but simply recognised the legal status of an existing approval."

Beyond the immediate legal defense, the company continues to advance its broader corporate strategy. Dateline Resources maintains a dual-focus portfolio in California, targeting both gold production and Rare Earth Element (HREE) potential at its project. While navigating the current litigation, the company is concurrently pursuing operational objectives to enhance the site's profile as a domestic source of critical minerals.

These development efforts include active drill testing of the HREE potential at the project, a program designed to evaluate the site's economic upside beyond its gold mineralization. As the legal process continues in the United States District Court, the company remains an active participant, defending its ownership and valid existing rights to ensure the continuity of its exploration and development plans in the region.
