Denarius Metals Secures 15.6% Stake in Copper Giant Resources to Advance Mocoa Project
Denarius Metals Corp. has entered into a binding term sheet to invest CA$28.8 million into Copper Giant Resources Corp., securing a 15.6% equity interest in the developer. The financing, which is expected to close on or about August 21, 2026, forms part of a larger CA$31.0 million capital raise by Copper Giant.
The investment will provide the capital required to progress the Mocoa copper-molybdenum project in Colombia beyond its current Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) and toward a construction decision. The funding is earmarked for resource conversion drilling, district-scale exploration, and the geotechnical and environmental programs necessary for project advancement. Concurrently, Copper Giant has secured a ten-year offtake agreement with Trafigura Pte Ltd, which covers 20% of the copper and molybdenum concentrate produced from the site once commercial production begins.
Denarius Metals is funding its strategic investment through its own concurrent private placement, raising approximately CA$28.8 million from Trafigura. Shares of Denarius Metals are currently trading at $0.3196, representing a 2.83% increase in the session following the announcement.
“We know Colombia and we know what it takes to move a project from resource to operation. Copper Giant's Mocoa Project stands out for its scale, its copper-molybdenum endowment and its potential importance to Colombia's mining future. We are investing as a long-term partner because we believe Copper Giant has the asset and the team to advance it responsibly.”
— Serafino Iacono, Executive Chairman of Denarius Metals
“This transaction changes the trajectory of Mocoa. Denarius Metals' investment gives us the capital to move through the PEA and accelerate the next phase toward a construction decision, while Trafigura provides a long-term route to global markets. Together, these partners bring Colombian operating experience, market reach and long-term alignment at a pivotal moment for copper and for Colombia.”
— Ian Harris, President and Chief Executive Officer of Copper Giant
Beyond the Mocoa development, the company is continuing work on its Zancudo project, where the construction of a 1,000 tonnes per day processing plant remains targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026. The Copper Giant investment remains subject to definitive documentation and regulatory approvals, including those from the TSX Venture and Cboe Canada exchanges.
