Discovery Mining Ltd. has appointed veteran mining executive William Shaver to its board of directors and named Ewan Downie as advisor to the president, CEO, and chairman as part of a series of senior appointments and executive promotions.

Bill Shaver brings over 60 years of mining experience in construction, operations, and mine design, having co-founded Dynatec Corporation and most recently served as chief operating officer of McEwan Mining. Ewan Downie brings over 30 years of industry experience, including founding i-80 Gold and Premier Gold Mines, and currently serves as managing partner of Giant Venture Capital Group.

In addition to the board and advisory appointments, Discovery promoted Duncan King and Gord Leavoy to co-chief operating officers. Eric Kallio was named executive vice president of exploration, Darin Smith becomes executive vice president of business development and strategy, Mark Utting is now executive vice president of investor relations and communications, Amanda Kasner was appointed senior vice president of finance and treasury, and Meri Verli steps up as senior vice president of business improvements. The company also appointed Mike Mayhew as vice president of special projects.

Several newly appointed and promoted executives previously worked together at Kirkland Lake Gold, where the team expanded annual gold production to over 1.4 million ounces over a six-year period.
