Electra Battery Materials Corporation has extended its cobalt hydroxide feed purchase agreement with Glencore AG through December 31, 2031, securing 100% of the feedstock required for the commissioning and ramp-up of its Ontario refinery through 2027.

The five-year extension builds on an existing commercial relationship established in 2021 and provides approximately 10,000 metric tonnes of contained cobalt over the five-year term. The arrangement gives Electra the flexibility to align deliveries with the anticipated commissioning and ramp-up of the Temiskaming Shores Cobalt Refinery during 2027 as the project advances toward mechanical completion.

The Temiskaming Shores Cobalt Refinery is a fully permitted brownfield development project supported by a US$73 million construction budget approved by the Board in February 2026. Achievement of commercial production at the facility is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.

The extension also establishes Glencore as a significant long-term supplier through 2031, providing a strong foundation for planned operations as production increases. Glencore brings global scale and deep experience in cobalt supply, while Electra is building the North American processing capacity needed to convert that feedstock into battery-grade cobalt sulfate. Together, the companies are establishing a more resilient North American supply chain for a critical material used across battery, energy storage, defense and industrial markets.”

Earlier project disclosures stated a design capacity of 6,500 tonnes of battery-grade cobalt annually. The current release specifies an initial production rate of 5,120 tonnes per annum alongside a crystallizer nameplate capacity of up to 6,500 tonnes per annum.

The supply agreement complements downstream commitments for the facility. In March 2026, Electra entered into a binding term sheet with LG Energy Solution committing approximately 60% of the refinery's planned cobalt sulfate production through 2029.
