EQ Resources Restarts Mining at Barruecopardo
Eq Resources Limited (EQR) has recommenced mining operations in the southern pit at its Barruecopardo tungsten project in Spain. This return to activity follows an intensive dewatering program required to clear 1.9 metres of accumulated water from the open pit, an issue caused by an extreme rainfall event earlier in the third quarter of the 2026 fiscal year.
The southern pit represents a vital source of feedstock for the company’s processing operations, containing an estimated 1.2 million tonnes of ore at a grade of 0.186% tungsten. Restoring access to this specific zone allows the company to resume extraction of higher-grade material, which had been temporarily suspended while the pit was submerged. Mining teams successfully executed the first blast in the southern pit on 8 July 2026, with the initial delivery of ore to the processing facility following just two days later.

Operational management is now focused on ramping up production from this area to return the mine to its targeted output levels. The site team expects the steady flow of ore from the southern pit to support the facility's ongoing performance as it continues to process material through the plant.
The restart at this project highlights the company's broader operational strategy. EQR maintains a dual-asset portfolio, balancing production across the Barruecopardo site in Spain and its Mt Carbine tungsten mine in Australia. Throughout both operations, the company employs advanced XRT ore sorting technology to optimise mineral recovery and processing efficiency. By leveraging this technical approach, EQR aims to maintain its position as a global supplier of tungsten, a critical mineral required for various industrial applications. The company continues to monitor its site performance to ensure a consistent feed of material as it moves beyond the recent weather-related disruption in the Spanish province of Salamanca.
