Future Metals NL (FME) has completed a strategic metallurgical review of its wholly owned Panton PGM-Ni-Cr Project in Western Australia. The assessment focused on refining the project’s processing flowsheet to reduce upfront capital requirements and simplify operational complexity compared to previous development configurations.

The review suggests that a single flotation train could effectively treat a blended feedstock, replacing the dual-circuit design proposed in the company’s earlier scoping study. This shift allows for more efficient ore sorting, which would prioritize upgrading the feed mass rather than separating distinct mineral zones. According to technical findings, this process could deliver a PGM grade uplift of up to 1.16 times while rejecting between 10% and 22% of the total feed mass.

Further operational efficiencies were identified regarding the grinding circuit, where coarser or staged grinding could significantly lower power consumption. The review also highlighted the potential for flash flotation and reagent modifications to streamline the circuit and decrease overall operating costs. Additionally, the analysis indicated that existing nearby processing infrastructure could potentially support various development scales for the project, though this remains subject to further engineering and metallurgical validation.

The company is preparing to launch a new Scoping Study, which will integrate these findings alongside a updated Mineral Resource Estimate. Before this study proceeds, the company will undertake targeted testwork to validate these metallurgical assumptions using representative blended samples. This next phase of work is designed to confirm the viability of lower-cost options for precious metal and chromite recovery while assessing the optimal balance between waste rejection and downstream processing requirements.

This technical advancement offers a clearer path toward defining a scalable development model. By focusing on a simplified flowsheet and examining staged expansion possibilities, the company aims to minimize initial capital exposure while maintaining the flexibility to increase production and recovery rates as the project matures. Future work will continue to refine these parameters, ensuring the updated development strategy is grounded in comprehensive, localized metallurgical data.
