Hemlo Mining experienced a temporary electrical outage at an underground substation on the 9765 level of the Hemlo Gold Mine on September 4, 2026. All underground personnel were safely brought to the surface with no injuries, and processing operations continue normally.

A temporary electrical bypass system has restored reduced power capacity to the affected Alimak production area, enabling certain activities while development work remains constrained. Hemlo expects to receive a replacement substation in December 2026 for US$250,000, having previously ordered the unit during a spare parts audit. Technical teams are also evaluating backup power and the potential relocation of electrical infrastructure to accelerate full restoration.

While the restriction may defer stoping schedules in the zone, the operator retains flexibility across more than 300 kilometres of underground development, allowing alternative sequences to proceed without disrupting the wider operation.
