Ionic Rare Earths (ASX: IXR) has appointed Sean Sargent as its new Chief Operating Officer for the EMEA region. Mr. Sargent will oversee the development of the company’s commercial rare earth permanent magnet recycling facility in Belfast, UK, and spearhead its international expansion efforts. This hire marks a strategic step in the company’s push to build secure, non-China supply chains for rare earth oxides, which are critical components for the defence, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Mr. Sargent brings significant leadership experience to the role, having spent 25 years in the engineering sector, including work in the nuclear and defence industries. Previously the CEO of Green Lithium, he managed operations and project delivery for major infrastructure and energy initiatives valued up to £15 billion. His expertise in navigating regulatory frameworks and managing complex industrial projects is expected to be central as the firm shifts toward full-scale commercial recycling operations.

The company is currently focused on leveraging its patented magnet recycling technology to deliver the UK’s first facility of this kind. Management has indicated that this appointment is part of a broader expansion of its leadership team to support its development roadmap.
