IperionX Validates Continuous Titanium Production

IperionX Limited has successfully validated its GenX™ continuous titanium production platform, moving past the batch processing model used in conventional Kroll titanium manufacturing. The testing was completed across four separate production campaigns totalling 41 hours at the company’s Virginia R&D facility.

The commercial-scale GenX™ system processed more than 500 kilograms of titanium powder at an average rate of approximately 12 kilograms per hour. Product oxygen analysis confirmed that all valid samples met relevant industry benchmarks, with angular powder achieving ASTM Grade 5 specifications and spherical titanium powder meeting the more stringent Grade 23 standard.

Compared to conventional batch HAMR™ operations, the continuous GenX™ system achieved a sixfold increase in total throughput on a like-for-like run time basis, alongside a 75% reduction in power consumption. The continuous process also reduced reagent use, requiring over 45% less magnesium and more than 60% less hydrogen per kilogram of titanium powder produced.

Building on these operating gains, IperionX previously secured a US$12.5 million obligation from the U.S. Department of Defense in August 2025 to fund long-lead capital equipment. That funding supports the ongoing scale-up of titanium manufacturing capacity at the Virginia facility to over 1,000 metric tons per year.

During the final quarter of 2026, IperionX will continue optimizing the GenX™ furnace, integrate the continuous unit into a full powder production line, and advance technoeconomic and engineering work for the first industrial-scale production line. The company is preparing for a broader production capacity of 1,400 tons per annum in 2027 at the Virginia facility, supported by the installation of additional powder metallurgy presses and sintering furnaces.
