Lithium Universe Achieves 97% Gold Purity From GCDE Technology Tests
Lithium Universe Limited has achieved metallic gold purity of 97.04% and gold recoveries exceeding 99% from multi-metal chloride solutions during laboratory testing of its licensed Gold Copper Diamide Extraction technology.
Developed by the University of Edinburgh, the processing method uses a proprietary diamide reagent to selectively precipitate dissolved gold species under acidic chloride conditions. The latest laboratory program evaluated the technology across complex solutions containing dissolved base and precious metals, eliminating the need for organic solvents and simplifying conventional circuit flowsheets.

Testing demonstrated tuneable metal selectivity based on solution acidity. Under 2M hydrochloric acid conditions, the reagent recovered gold almost quantitatively while leaving aluminium, copper, nickel, zinc, palladium, iron, tin, and platinum largely in solution. This operational control allows gold to be recovered ahead of lower-value metals, reducing downstream purification requirements. The test work also recorded a 98% gold recovery rate from dissolved electronic waste, alongside confirmation that the diamide reagent can be recycled across multiple loading and stripping cycles.
Norah Mining Limited's spodumene concentrate concentrator is scheduled for completion in 2026 to support the Bécancour Lithium Refinery feedstock supply agreement.
“These outstanding results further validate the commercial potential of our GCDE technology. Achieving over 99% gold recovery and producing metallic gold at 97% purity demonstrates the effectiveness of our selective extraction process. Combined with reagent recyclability and the elimination of organic solvents, GCDE has the potential to provide a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative for recovering gold from both mining and electronic waste. We look forward to advancing the technology towards pilot-scale development and commercialisation.”
