Metals Creek Resources Corp. and Benton Resources Inc. have expanded the Smoking Gun Hydrogen-Helium Project in the Deer Lake Basin of Western Newfoundland by acquiring an additional 262 claim units through staking.

The partners are currently awaiting laboratory results from two recently completed regional soil gas sampling programs covering the Smoking Gun and Parson's Pond projects. The fieldwork was overseen by Rudy Willick of Rudiger Re-Chem and involved collecting samples for analysis of hydrogen, helium, neon, carbon dioxide and C1-C4 hydrocarbons.

Once the soil gas data is compiled, Metals Creek and Benton plan to design an inaugural drill program to test favourable targets. Both the Deer Lake Basin and Parson's Pond Basin are interpreted as highly prospective sedimentary environments, featuring porous sandstones and conglomerates with mudstone and shale caprocks. Regional fault structures provide migration pathways into structural traps, while the presence of chrome, serpentine and associated groundwater provides the mechanism to generate hydrogen.

The companies caution that the presence of gas or methane on the staked claims or on adjacent properties does not guarantee the presence of commercial hydrogen or helium, and further studies are required to validate their presence.
