Mogotes Metals Expands Albor Discovery at Filo Sur
Mogotes Metals Inc. (TSXV: MOG) has reported significant new drill results from its Filo Sur project, further delineating the Albor copper-gold-silver-molybdenum discovery. The latest data from drill hole FS_DDH_016 confirms a substantial mineralized system, returning 180 metres at 0.98% copper equivalent (CuEq) starting from 108 metres depth. This intercept includes a high-grade section of 58 metres grading 1.77% CuEq, reinforcing the potential for a large-scale porphyry system.
Geological evidence from the core reveals multiple overlapping hydrothermal events, including early potassic-altered diorite porphyry and secondary epithermal overprints. This combination is interpreted as a telescoped mineralizing system, with the company noting that intensity of potassic alteration appears to increase at depth near the Macho Muerto Fault Zone. Mogotes remains focused on the broader Vicuña district, prioritizing these porphyry and epithermal systems.
"In our first fully funded drill season at Filo Sur, we have now made two significant copper-gold-silver-molybdenum discoveries, at Cruz del Sur and at the Albor target. The final assays for FS_DDH_016 have expanded the Albor intercept to 180 metres of high-grade, near-surface copper-gold-silver-molybdenum mineralization, confirming and extending the discovery we first reported in May. We look forward to sharing the results of the final holes in the Luz del Sol system as they are reported." — Allen Sabet, President and CEO
The company is currently preparing to report final assay results for two additional drill holes, FS_DDH_013 and FS_DDH_015. These upcoming results are expected to provide further clarity on the project's geological structure. Following this, the technical team will focus on prioritizing offset drilling programs at the Albor target to define the spatial extent of the high-grade breccia mineralization and test for deeper porphyry targets.
While the drilling season has yielded these results, operational momentum continues to build through financial support. Mogotes recently secured a US$15 million strategic investment from Rio Tinto Exploration Canada Inc., which provides the capital necessary to advance its planned exploration programs at Filo Sur. This investment, announced shortly after the release of these drill results, underscores the interest from major mining players in the district’s potential. The company's immediate forward-looking focus involves integrating these recent findings into a comprehensive compilation of the season's data to refine the next phase of work.
The project sits along the Macho Muerto Fault Zone, a structure extending approximately 10 kilometres across the concessions. The company believes this fault is a critical control on mineralization, as demonstrated by the discoveries made during the current field season. As the team plans for upcoming exploration, they intend to utilize the geochemical anomalies and geological models developed throughout this period to guide further drilling. With the technical data from the most recent holes now under review, the company is positioned to continue evaluating the extent of the mineralized zones while maintaining its broader exploration strategy in the region.
