Northern Graphite Corporation has formally contested a provincial regulatory decision by filing an appeal with the Court of Quebec regarding the suspension of the mining lease for its Lac des Iles graphite mine.

The dispute stems from an outstanding payment tied to an increased financial guarantee required for site restoration. The suspension notice was issued by Quebec's Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts following a disagreement over the interpretation of applicable requirements under the provincial Mining Act. Northern maintains that it is not in default under the legislation.

By filing the formal appeal, the suspension is stayed until the Court of Quebec renders a final decision. The mining lease remains in effect throughout the legal proceedings, protecting the operational status of the project while the judicial review moves forward.

The appeal marks a formal escalation from previous disclosures where Northern merely signaled an intent to challenge the regulatory action. The operational pause at the Quebec asset follows a broader corporate strategy that saw the mine and mill placed into temporary care and maintenance in November 2025 to handle equipment issues and advance development work ahead of a planned pit expansion.

That pit expansion is backed by financial support from the Canadian government, which agreed in August 2025 to provide a repayable contribution of up to $6.225 million to finance 75 percent of eligible extension costs. The Court of Quebec will now determine the final outcome of the lease dispute as the company works toward advancing its restart plans.
