Patronus Resources expands Pine Creek gold targets
Patronus Resources (ASX: PTN) is accelerating its exploration efforts at the Pine Creek project in the Northern Territory. The company is currently targeting multiple gold systems across its 1,500km² landholding through a combination of systematic lag sampling and active drilling. Recent surface work has successfully defined several kilometre-scale anomalies, including the new 3km-long Golden Wall target, which sits adjacent to the established Cosmo-Howley trend. Peak sampling values of 1.94g/t Au have been returned across various priority areas, confirming the potential for bedrock mineralisation.
Operational activity is currently scaling up. Two reverse circulation (RC) drill rigs are operating on the ground, while a diamond drill rig has been mobilised to expedite the testing of high-priority targets. One focus area is the Hydra prospect, where an initial 27-hole RC programme is currently underway. The company is also refining other targets like Medusa, Typhoon, and Minotaur, which continue to show consistent gold anomalism.
"These results continue to demonstrate that Pine Creek is evolving into a district-scale gold opportunity, with multiple kilometre-scale gold systems emerging across the project rather than reliance on a single prospect."
"Importantly, only a small proportion of our tenure has been drill tested, and we believe Pine Creek remains significantly under-explored with considerable discovery potential." — John Ingram, Managing Director
The broader strategy involves integrating these surface geochemical datasets with updated geological interpretations to sharpen drill targeting. As the exploration programme advances, the company expects to release results from the ongoing RC and diamond drilling efforts over the coming months.
Looking ahead, Patronus is also working through the necessary environmental approvals to unlock further testing. The company intends to prioritise drill testing for additional targets, including Kraken, Griffin, Cyclops, and Chimera, as soon as the required regulatory clearances are in place. These upcoming phases of activity are designed to build a pipeline of high-quality drill targets while maintaining the current momentum of systematic exploration across the district. By moving away from a reliance on single-prospect development, the company aims to establish a broader inventory of gold opportunities within its large-scale project area. The team remains focused on these systematic programmes to prove the potential of the underexplored tenure.
