Queensland Government and QIC Inspect Progress at Mt Chalmers
QMines Limited (ASX:QML) recently hosted senior officials from the Queensland Government and the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) at its flagship Mt Chalmers project in Central Queensland. The visit, which included Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates, allowed government and investment representatives to inspect the site and review the operational progress being made toward the potential redevelopment of the historic copper and gold mine.
The delegation received an update on the company’s staged development strategy, which currently supports the advancement of a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) and associated environmental approvals. These activities remain central to the company’s efforts to reach a final investment decision. The visit also highlighted the project’s capacity to support regional employment and the production of critical minerals necessary for the global energy transition. This site inspection follows the Queensland Government’s recent $15 million investment in the project through the QIC Critical Minerals Fund.
"We were delighted to welcome Minister Bates, Mr Hutton and representatives from QIC to Mt Chalmers and showcase the significant progress being made as we work towards bringing one of Queensland's historic copper and gold mines back into production."
"The visit provided an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of work currently underway across the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) and environmental approvals program, while highlighting the important role Mt Chalmers can play in supplying the copper needed for global electrification and supporting long-term regional employment."
— Andrew Sparke, Chairman and Managing Director
Development work at the site has gained momentum since the Definitive Feasibility Study officially commenced in February 2026. The company has confirmed that multiple technical workstreams are now active, covering geology, mining, and geotechnical engineering. Furthermore, the team has completed an updated three-dimensional geological model intended to optimize future mine planning.
These milestones are critical components of the broader effort to move the project toward a production-ready state. The company is simultaneously progressing environmental baseline studies and permitting activities required for formal approvals. The successful completion of the Definitive Feasibility Study remains the primary upcoming milestone for the team. With the integration of fresh geological data and the ongoing engineering efforts, the project is moving closer to its objective of delivering a long-life mining operation. The collaboration with state-backed investment partners underscores the strategic importance placed on the development of the company’s assets within the Queensland critical minerals sector.
