QIMC Engages Contractors for Nova Scotia Seismic Program
Québec Innovative Materials Corp. has engaged Echo Seismic Ltd. and Strum Consulting to oversee an approximately 42 line-kilometre 2D seismic program across the Bennett Hill-Apple River corridor in Nova Scotia, with field acquisition anticipated in Fall 2026.
The nine-line survey utilizes an INOVA Quantum nodal system featuring approximately 1,400 channels, 5-Hz geophones and 25-metre receiver spacing, with Vibroseis energy sources operating from existing roads. The program is designed to test structural controls on both surface hydrogen and helium anomalies, mapping faults, shear zones and basement contacts across five target areas.
Prior to launching the seismic survey, Québec Innovative Materials Corp. completed a five-hole drilling campaign, designated DDH-26-01 through DDH-26-05, and collected approximately 6,000 soil-gas samples along the corridor. The Nova Scotia survey forms part of a combined 78 line-kilometre regional campaign alongside a 36 line-kilometre survey in Québec, marking the largest geophysical program undertaken by the company to date. Activity across the broader Cumberland Basin has seen peer operations advance, including land acquisition by Primary Hydrogen Corp.
“We drilled first to establish whether hydrogen was present at depth and to obtain direct geological control within a district where no legacy well or hydrogen-focused seismic dataset existed,” said John Karagiannidis, President and Chief Executive Officer of QIMC. “With hydrogen now identified at two drilling centres approximately 15 kilometres apart and data from five drill holes available for calibration, seismic becomes the next step in our pilot production pathway. Our objective is to understand the structures connecting these occurrences and use that framework to guide the next phase of pressure and flow testing.”

Following field acquisition, QIMC plans to process and interpret the seismic data to establish a structural framework. That interpretation will be integrated with existing drilling, geochemical and geophysical datasets to define priority locations for targeted characterization drilling, pressure testing, flow testing and accumulation characterization.
