Renascor Resources Targets Competitive Advantage with HF-Free Graphite Process
Renascor Resources Limited (RNU) has released a new cost study confirming the economic potential of its hydrofluoric acid (HF) free purification process for battery-grade graphite. The company estimates operating costs of approximately US$459/t for its proprietary method, which is designed to produce Purified Spherical Graphite (PSG) with 99.99% carbon purity. By eliminating the use of HF, the process avoids the significant health, safety, and environmental disposal costs typically associated with conventional purification techniques used in Western battery supply chains.
The study is based on a conceptual design for a commercial facility in Bolivar, South Australia, with an annual processing capacity of 50,000 tonnes. Renascor’s process incorporates a sulfuric acid leach and low-temperature caustic bake, coupled with an integrated water treatment circuit that facilitates reagent recycling. This technical approach is aimed at establishing a commercially viable, non-Chinese alternative for the lithium-ion battery anode market.

The company is currently in the commissioning phase for its Australian Government co-funded demonstration plant. This facility is critical for the next stage of development, as it will serve to validate engineering parameters and provide product samples for ongoing offtake negotiations with potential strategic partners. Data derived from this plant will be used to finalize the design for the proposed full-scale commercial operation.
