Rio Tinto Plc is investing $2 million through the Rio Tinto Canada Fund to support two healthcare initiatives in Quebec, directing equal $1 million gifts to The Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation and the McGill University Health Centre Foundation.

The funding will back targeted medical programs at the institutions. Support for the McGill Interdisciplinary Initiative in Infection and Immunity at the McGill University Health Centre will advance work combating antimicrobial resistance, enhance intensive care unit research platforms, and accelerate clinical research infrastructure. At The Montreal Children's Hospital, the investment supports the SMART Hospital Project, which develops wireless pediatric monitoring technologies and integrates artificial intelligence to reduce infection risks and replace traditional monitoring wires for young patients.

The commitment builds on Rio Tinto’s broader funding framework in Canada, following an increase in its annual community investment commitment through the Rio Tinto Canada Fund to C$13 million in June 2026.
