Rio Tinto and the Ngarlawangga Aboriginal Corporation have signed an Interim Modernised Agreement, establishing a co-management framework for operations across Ngarlawangga Country in Western Australia.

The arrangement introduces agreed processes for earlier and ongoing engagement across the mine lifecycle, allowing Ngarlawangga perspectives to shape decisions regarding cultural heritage and environmental management. The interim accord also delivers additional long-term financial support directed toward social, cultural, and community development.

The agreement builds on the 2011 Participation Agreement previously established between the two parties and lays the foundation for a full modernised agreement, which Rio Tinto and the Ngarlawangga Aboriginal Corporation are continuing to work together to finalise.

Rio Tinto previously secured a similar interim modernised agreement with the Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation in December 2025 to govern operations on Yinhawangka Country.
