Sigma Lithium confirmed that its mining and industrial operations at the Grota do Cirilo project in Minas Gerais, Brazil, continue normally while the company strongly contests a preliminary judicial ruling concerning its environmental licenses.

The company operates the Grota do Cirilo project where mining and industrial operations recently resumed following the execution of a Terms for Adjustment of Procedures agreement with state authorities. Sigma Lithium previously outlined plans to increase installed industrial capacity at the project through two additional plants, targeting 580,000 tonnes per year by the end of 2027 and 830,000 tonnes per year by the end of 2028.

The preliminary ruling involves a potential R$100,000 penalty for non-compliance and relates exclusively to surface rights and land claims rather than the company's mining concessions or mineral rights. The original Quilombola land claim sought approximately 500 hectares, while a subsequent request filed in 2025 expanded the claimed area to 15,000 hectares. Sigma Lithium stated that the nearest residence of the claiming community is located beyond the applicable 8-kilometre legal distance threshold, specifically over 12 kilometres away from operations.

“Being selected once again to ring the Nasdaq Closing Bell during Climate Week is a recognition of Sigma Lithium's unique journey. During the last five years we have resiliently navigated volatile lithium price cycles without diluting shareholders, while diplomatically managing through domestic political democratic polarization, multipolar geopolitics, and increased fuel costs resulting from international wars. We are immensely proud of our team for working relentlessly since the inaugural listing in the United States, to deliver on all our business targets and a wave of prosperity to our neighbours in Lithium Valley.”

— Ana Cabral, CEO and Co-Chairperson

The preliminary ruling contesting the company's environmental licenses remains subject to review by competent appellate courts, and Sigma Lithium is actively pursuing legal remedies under Brazilian law to seek its prompt reversal.
