Sonoro Gold Corp. has promoted Oscar Armando González Peña to Vice President, Exploration and Melvin Herdrick to Senior Vice President, Mexico.

Oscar González steps into the exploration vice presidency after serving as Exploration Manager and Chief Geologist for the past nine years. During his tenure, he contributed significantly to mineral resource delineation at the company’s flagship Cerro Caliche gold project in Sonora State, Mexico. His background spans 23 years in mineral exploration, covering project management, resource evaluation, permitting, and community relations, alongside prior experience with Fresnillo plc, Kimber Resources, Yamana Gold Inc, and Premier Gold Mines.

Mel Herdrick moves to the role of Senior Vice President, Mexico after holding the exploration vice presidency since 2018. Herdrick brings over 50 years of experience as a professional geologist, backed by a strong track record in evaluating technical deposit feasibility. Before joining Sonoro, he served as chief geologist at Phelps Dodge and vice president of geology at Pediment Gold Corp., where he led discovery and exploration programs across multiple gold, silver, and copper sites in Mexico.

Sonoro holds Cerro Caliche as its development-stage flagship asset alongside the exploration-stage San Marcial project, both situated in Sonora State. Technical teams are currently advancing a two-phase, 50,000-metre drilling campaign across the property. Phase I encompasses 25,000 metres of drilling scheduled to run through fall 2026, followed immediately by Phase II with another 25,000 metres continuing into spring 2027.
