Southern Palladium Limited (SPD) has released positive metallurgical test results for its Bengwenyama PGM project in South Africa, marking a significant step toward the completion of its Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS). The latest testwork indicates a notable improvement in recovery rates for both platinum group metals and chromite, utilizing an optimized processing flowsheet that avoids novel technologies in favor of well-established, conventional methods.

The study highlighted an estimated full-plant chromite recovery of 85.6%, a substantial increase enabled by a coarser grind size of 30% passing 75 micrometers. This adjustment suggests potential annual chromite concentrate production could reach approximately 1.054 million tonnes per annum at a grade of 42.2% Cr2O3. Simultaneously, PGM recovery metrics showed upward momentum, with overall recovery estimated at 87.6% and concentrate grades reaching 404.4g/t 3E. Management expects these findings to offer meaningful capital and operating cost advantages by reducing processing intensity and waste volumes.

The refined process flowsheet, which incorporates dense media separation and staged flotation, is designed to align with existing infrastructure standards. Beyond technical efficiency, the data also supports the company’s objective to streamline its offtake pathway with major smelters and refineries located on the Western Limb. By optimizing these metallurgical parameters, the company aims to ensure the project remains a high-quality, long-life operation.

With these results confirmed, Southern Palladium remains on track for its next major milestone. The definitive feasibility study for the site is currently scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026, providing further clarity on the project's long-term economic profile and development timeline.
