Standard Lithium Validates Arkansas Battery-Quality Carbonate With Nano One

Standard Lithium Ltd. has successfully produced lithium iron phosphate cathode active material and battery coin cells in North America using battery-quality lithium carbonate sourced from its South West Arkansas Project pilot plant.

Nano One Materials Corp. used approximately one kilogram of lithium carbonate produced from the SWA Project brine and process flowsheet in its patented One-Pot process. Initial electrochemical testing delivered approximately 155 mAh/g on first discharge, with the material achieving the intended particle morphology and chemical properties.

Standard Lithium is developing the South West Arkansas Project in partnership with global energy leader Equinor through the Smackover Lithium joint venture. The project has also secured a conditional award of up to US$225 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to support the construction of its central processing facility.

Smackover Lithium is advancing the South West Arkansas Project toward a Final Investment Decision following recent EPCC and EPCM contract awards. In addition, the joint venture holds a binding offtake agreement with Trafigura for 8,000 metric tonnes per year of lithium carbonate, with deliveries scheduled to begin at the start of commercial production.
