Talga Group Ltd (ASX: TLG) has taken a significant step toward expanding its reach in the electric vehicle sector, announcing a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. The agreement establishes a structured framework for the two companies to evaluate the potential supply of Talga’s Talnode anode products for use in hybrid electric vehicle batteries.

"Talga Group Ltd ("Talga" or "the Company") is pleased to announce it has executed a non-binding Letter of Intent ("LOI") with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation ("MCC"), a major Japanese manufacturer of lithium-ion battery materials." — Mark Thompson, Managing Director

The partnership aims to move rapidly toward a formal commercial relationship. The companies are targeting September 2026 for the execution of a conditional supply terms sheet, with the ultimate goal of finalising a definitive three-year supply agreement by December 2026. These milestones remain subject to ongoing technical evaluations, product qualification, and rigorous sample testing.

The collaborative effort centers on aligning product specifications and quality standards with the specific needs of the Japanese market. Central to these discussions is a joint focus on establishing robust supply-chain due diligence, incorporating ESG performance metrics, and ensuring the final products meet low-carbon and FEOC-free requirements. While the LOI is currently non-binding and carries no immediate financial impact, it provides a clear roadmap for both parties to explore the integration of Talga’s materials into the broader Japanese battery landscape.

This engagement aligns with Talga’s broader corporate strategy as it continues developing a vertically integrated mine-to-anode supply chain based in Sweden. By leveraging its flagship Vittangi graphite project, the company is positioning itself to provide specialized anode materials for high-power, fast-charge applications. This latest development underscores the company’s efforts to secure commercial pathways for its integrated manufacturing platform within the high-growth vehicle battery sector.
