Talisman Mining Limited (ASX: TLM) has identified an emerging large-scale gold system at its Walkers Hill project in New South Wales. The company recently completed a 1,657-metre aircore drilling program at the project’s Sheepyard Prospect, confirming shallow gold mineralisation across an 800-metre strike length that remains unconstrained. The drilling has returned consistent intersections, including 9 metres at 0.94g/t gold from 42 metres depth in hole SYAC0085.

These findings are particularly significant because the mineralisation sits on the margins of a large induced polarisation chargeability anomaly that has not yet been subjected to drilling. The company interprets this anomaly as a potential indicator of a deeper, primary sulphide-gold system. The shallow gold hits, such as 15 metres at 0.55g/t gold from 3 metres in hole SYAC0088, are thought to represent the surface expression of this larger, untested target.

The broader project area is defined by a 5.5-kilometre-long geochemical anomaly, and the latest drill data supports the theory that the Sheepyard Prospect is a high-priority target within this package. The mineralisation identified consists of sheared, veined, and brecciated quartz-pyrite alteration zones hosted within sediments. These geological features, accompanied by associations with arsenic, antimony, and tungsten, are typical of orogenic gold systems.

Looking ahead, Talisman is preparing for its next phase of exploration to determine the full extent of this potential system. Plans include follow-up aircore drilling to further expand the footprint of the near-surface gold mineralisation. Simultaneously, the company intends to utilise reverse circulation (RC) drilling to provide a more definitive test of the IP chargeability anomaly at depth. This deeper drilling is expected to clarify whether the anomaly represents the core of the mineralised system, which would have the potential to host higher-grade gold mineralisation. By targeting both the shallow extensions and the deeper primary source, the explorer aims to better understand the scale and architecture of the discovery, moving beyond the preliminary results to assess the system’s true economic potential within the Lachlan Fold Belt.
