Talon Selects Humboldt Mill As Processing Route For Tamarack Project

Talon Metals Corp. has selected its existing Humboldt Mill in Marquette County, Michigan, as the processing location for material from the Tamarack Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project in central Minnesota, dropping plans to build a separate facility in North Dakota.
The decision means Talon will not advance construction of the previously proposed Beulah Minerals Processing Facility in Mercer County, North Dakota. The company is currently working with the U.S. Department of Energy regarding the future of an existing US$114.8 million funding agreement tied to that proposed North Dakota facility.
The shift follows Talon’s acquisition of the operating Eagle Mine and the Humboldt Mill in January 2026. That transaction gave the company an operating U.S. nickel-copper processing plant, an established workforce, and existing technical expertise that were unavailable when the North Dakota facility was originally planned.
Talon holds a 51% ownership interest in the Tamarack Project through a joint venture with Rio Tinto and maintains an earn-in right to increase its stake to 60%.
Talon is conducting a feasibility study to evaluate processing Tamarack material at Humboldt, which will cover required material handling, process modifications, and other technical considerations. The study is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
“The Humboldt Mill gives us the opportunity to build on an existing U.S. processing facility with a proven operational and environmental track record and a highly experienced workforce,” said Darby Stacey, Chief Executive Officer of Talon. “As we evaluate the future development of the Tamarack Project, we see real value in making the best use of infrastructure we already own and maintaining skilled jobs and economic activity in Michigan. It is an opportunity to build upon what is already working while continuing to strengthen our U.S. nickel-copper platform.” — Darby Stacey, Chief Executive Officer
Regulatory coordination with authorities in Minnesota and Michigan is also underway to transition the processing location to Humboldt, which is already included as an off-site processing option in current Minnesota Department of Natural Resources environmental review materials for the project.
