Valiant Gold Accelerates Comet Mine Restart Work After Re-Entry
Valiant Gold Limited has transitioned from passive assessment to active infrastructure execution at its Comet Gold Mine in Western Australia, moving beyond the preliminary underground inspections completed in July 2026 to award key contracts and order long-lead equipment.
Following July's successful re-entry—which revealed lower-than-expected water levels and serviceable workings—Valiant has brought forward major procurement and engineering workstreams to shorten the pathway to production readiness. The company has engaged Silverstone Energy Pty Ltd to supply and deliver a 6.1 MW site power station, with site delivery and commissioning scheduled for the second quarter of fiscal 2027.
Additional procurement includes primary ventilation equipment, permanent dewatering pumps, underground electrical substations, and refuge chambers. Quick Camps Pty Ltd has also been awarded a contract to supply an initial 30-person accommodation camp, which is designed for scalable future expansion up to 100 persons alongside kitchen and mess facilities.
The underground restart at Comet represents Valiant Gold Limited's primary mine restart workstream within the Murchison region, supported by additional development pathways at the regional Reedy Gold Project, which hosts the South Emu-Triton and Boomerang deposits.
To underpin mine planning and resource conversion, Valiant Gold Limited has commenced a tender process for an underground diamond drilling contractor, with drill mobilisation targeted for the second quarter of fiscal 2027. These operational workstreams are running in parallel with the Comet Restart Study, which is also scheduled for completion in the second quarter of fiscal 2027.
“Valiant is advancing the critical infrastructure, site and technical workstreams required to return Comet to production. Completion of the Comet Restart Study, targeted for Q2 FY27, will provide the basis for announcing the preliminary restart mining schedule and key milestones toward the recommencement of operations. I look forward to providing further updates as each of these exciting milestones is reached and mining commences”
— Brendan Tritton, Managing Director & CEO
The restart program is anchored by an existing Mineral Resource Estimate of 3.77 million tonnes at 2.51 grams per tonne gold for 304,197 ounces of contained gold across the Comet mine trend.
