Vortex Energy Delivers Final Ambient Noise Tomography Model For Robinsons River Salt Project
Vortex Energy Corp. has released the final results from its Ambient Noise Tomography survey at the Robinsons River Salt Project in Newfoundland and Labrador, generating a three-dimensional shear-wave velocity model that covers an area approximately 17.5 kilometres east-west by 9.24 kilometres north-south.
The computational model extends to a depth of approximately 3.8 kilometres and images the subsurface to at least 2.5 kilometres depth. Modeled shear-wave velocities range from about 1,100 metres per second near the surface to approximately 4,450 metres per second at depth. The survey identified three broad velocity domains, including an upper zone below approximately 1,500 metres per second, an intermediate domain reaching depths of 2.0 to 2.5 kilometres with velocities between 2,000 and 4,000 metres per second, and a deeper homogeneous domain exceeding 4,000 metres per second.

A northeast-trending velocity discontinuity along the eastern margin highlights lateral variations that may indicate major structural or lithological boundaries. However, the survey results do not sharply resolve the boundaries of interpreted salt structures due to overlapping shear-wave velocities between halite and local consolidated clastic sedimentary rocks. Consequently, Vortex Energy is utilizing the data alongside existing drilling, seismic, and gravity information.
Prior to releasing the survey results, Vortex Energy received a final technical study from Lonquist Field Service in August 2026 that evaluated subsurface salt structures and referenced a gross salt interval of approximately 278 metres at drill hole VTX-24-W-02. The company is conducting a detailed review of this core and representative density measurements as part of its ongoing technical review.
