WA Gold Updates Abercromby Drilling Progress
WA Gold Ltd (ASX: WAU) has completed a seven-hole diamond drilling campaign at the Abercromby gold project, totalling 3,277 metres. This initial phase of the 2026 program targeted areas below and south of the current deposit over a 500-metre strike length. Geological logging indicates all holes successfully intersected the primary host structure of the Capital deposit.
The company has submitted samples from five of the seven holes for laboratory assay, with the remaining two scheduled for delivery by the end of the week. Investors can expect to receive these assay results later this month. Alongside the exploration efforts, WA Gold has completed a geotechnical review of the recovered drill core, which will provide essential data for the ongoing feasibility study.
Beyond the immediate drilling results, the company is preparing for an expanded exploration push. WA Gold plans to launch a new, fully-funded campaign this quarter, involving approximately 6,000 metres of diamond and reverse circulation drilling. This next phase aims to both extend the existing mineral resource and enhance the confidence level of geological reserves required for the project's development studies.
The technical work, including the recent geotechnical assessments and upcoming drilling, remains focused on progressing the project toward production. WA Gold is currently aiming to reach a shovel-ready status for the operation by late 2027 or early 2028. This objective follows a positive scoping study, which previously outlined a development path involving an open pit transition to an underground mine, targeting a production level of roughly 114,000 ounces of gold.
