West Wits Mining Limited has reversed its earlier plan to release the Witwatersrand Basin Project 200 Scoping Study following consultations with the Australian Securities Exchange.

The company initially targeted completion of the study for June 2026 and provided an update in August confirming that the work had been finished. However, West Wits will now withhold the full study from the market because the proportion of inferred mineral resources used in the production target reached an aggregate of 74% across the 35-year life-of-mine model. Certain years within the proposed mine plan contained inferred resources exceeding 90%, exceeding regulatory thresholds for public financial disclosure.

Under ASX requirements, high proportions of lower-confidence inferred material cannot form the primary basis for publicly released financial metrics and production targets in scoping studies.

The company launched the Project 200 initiative in February 2026 to evaluate development and processing pathways across the broader Witwatersrand Basin asset toward an aspirational production rate of 200,000 ounces per annum. Despite the disclosure setback, West Wits maintains that the study met its internal objectives by providing sufficient justification to evaluate the merits of advancing Project 200 into the pre-feasibility stage.

To satisfy regulatory standards for future disclosures, West Wits intends to complete additional technical work aimed at converting more inferred mineral resources into higher-confidence measured and indicated categories.

Meanwhile, operational work continues elsewhere at the South African gold project. West Wits is targeting the connection of the Qala Shallows operation to grid power in the fourth quarter of 2026, a step designed to reduce reliance on diesel generation.
